DexTTer: Robbie And His Demons Updated: 10:24, Tuesday February 13, 2007 He was once dismissed as the "fat dancer from Take That" but Robbie Williams is, despite all his problems, the Mr Big of the British music business. His album sales are bigger than any other British solo artist. His earnings are bigger than any of his contemporaries. And his problems are definitely bigger than most men could handle. "I'd have about five grams of cocaine and as much booze as I could get down my gullet," he once bragged. Despite his musical talent and his immense wealth, he has battled with personal demons of drink and drugs throughout his career. Rumours that he had fallen heavily off the wagon followed the recent cancellation of the Asian leg of his world tour because of "exhaustion". Cynics asked if he was upset that his Take That colleagues were enjoying their successful re-formation without him. Robbie has sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist, and he appears in the list of the all-time Top 100 biggest selling albums in the UK six times, more than any other person or group. Last year he smashed the world record for concert ticket sales when he played to more than three million people - and sold 1.6 million tickets in a day. And he's rolling in cash. In 2006 the Sunday Times Rich List claimed he was worth over £90m. The chirpy 16-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent who joined the British answer to the New Kids On The Block has come a long way. He famously quit Take That after going on a massive booze and drugs bender with the Oasis brothers. And he has subsequently spoken with bitterness about his relationship with the group's main songwriter, Gary Barlow, and their manager Nigel Martin Smith, often with tirades from the stage as he makes a mockery of his band's sugary hits. His first massive hit was the ballad Angels, which helped his Life Thru A Lens album hit the Number One spot six months after its release. Angels and its glam-rock parody follow-up, Let Me Entertain You, were everywhere and proved to the world that he was serious about being a solo star. Record label EMI agreed and in 2002 they signed an £80m deal that must have blown his mind. Robbie checked into the renowned Clouds rehab clinic in Wiltshire following years of drug and alcohol abuse. At the time he said he could not cope with being adored by his fans. His massive drink and drugs binges became a staple of the gossip columns - and so did his assurances that he had cleaned up his act. And that meant he was a hit with the women. Williams has had romantic relationships with several well-known female celebrities, including Geri Halliwell, Rachel Hunter and Nicole Appleton, who wrote in her autobiography that she had aborted Robbie's child during their time together. Since parting ways with co-songwriter Guy Chambers, the singer's musical reputation has taken a battering, and despite spending much of his time in the US he has never managed to crack the American pop charts - something some insider's say is a major factor in his troubles.

DexTTer: Williams enters rehab on birthday Williams has enjoyed a hugely successful solo career to date Pop singer Robbie Williams has been admitted into a rehab clinic in the US on his 33rd birthday, to be treated for a dependency on prescription drugs. It is not the first time that the British star has entered rehab, having become addicted to drugs and alcohol after he left Take That in 1995. He said later that his condition was so bad that Sir Elton John "kidnapped" him and made him seek treatment. In September, his Asian tour was called off because of stress and exhaustion. He was to have visited Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai (Bombay) and Bangalore in November. A spokesman said at the time that to have performed in those cities after honouring European and South American commitments would have been "asking too much". 'Blow up' In a TV interview broadcast in 2004, Williams said he only gave up drugs and alcohol because they made him too fat. He said his addiction made him "blow up to the size of a small aircraft hangar". Williams' former Take That bandmates are currently enjoying a hugely successful comeback, including a number one single and album, and a sell-out UK tour. Their song Patience is expected to win best single at the Brit Awards ceremony, which takes place in London on Wednesday. But this is the first time in several years that Williams has failed to be in the running for the best male or best album categories.

Robbie Williams has today been admitted into a treatment centre in America for his dependancy on prescription drugs. There will be no further comment'.
